Heavy rain inundates two poultry farms, 10K native chicks drown

Krishnagiri : More than 10,000 native chicks worth ₹17.5 lakh drowned after heavy rainfall flooded two poultry farms at two villages near Pochampalli on Sunday night.

While 5,500 60-day chicks drowned in the poultry farm owned by V Baskar at Alerahalli village, more than 4,500 10-day-old chicks drowned at the farm owned by K Rajini at Kullambatti village.

Pochampalli received 97mm of rainfall on Sunday night. Baskar pegged his loss at ₹15 lakh while Rajini assessed his loss at ₹2.5 lakh. Both urged the state government to provide compensation for the loss.

Dr Santhosh, a veterinary assistant from Santhur, visited and surveyed both farms. Revenue inspector Malarselvi and village administrative officer Thenmozhi also carried out a survey. They said that they would submit a report to the government to facilitate compensation.
