Arunachal: Training on Scientific Poultry and Duck farming organised

Two days training on scientific poultry farming in Namsai district conducted by KVK Namsai under the flagship aimed to develop poultry village in Namsai District.

With this objective, the 40 beneficiaries from six villages Momong, Lathao, Sumuguri, Habi Gaon, Nampong and Mahadevpur III were trained on scientific poultry farming and its horizontal dissemination to the neighbor so that village may be recognized as peculiar poultry village and product.

Under technical session Dr. Binod Kr Dutta Borah and Dr. Santosh Kumar SMS (Animal Science), KVK Namsai explained the concept of one village one product, importance of poultry village in Namsai district, use of poultry farming as income generation and livelihood enterprise, improved breed of poultry, brooding of chicks, nutritional requirement of poultry, feeding of poultry under commercial as well as backyard system, housing management under different climatic condition and climatic change, vaccination schedule, health & bio-security measures for successful poultry production.

The integration of poultry and duck farming with fish production was explained by Dr. Debasis Sasmal, SMS Fishery science cum Sr. Scientist & Head (i/c). During valedictory session, Dr. Namita Lungchang, BTM, ATMA, Namsai District addressed the trainees and encourage them to come forward and take advantage of the training and demonstrations from KVK and develop their own model farm.

At the end of the programme, 400 chicks of improved poultry breed  Kalinga Brown and 510 number of day-old duckling of Khaki Campbell and Vigova Super-M along with supplementary medicine and feed were distributed to 60 number of beneficiaries. The poultry village scheme was sponsored by ICAR RC NEH Region, Barapani, Meghalaya, and demonstration on an improved breed of duck were sponsored by ATMA, Namsai district.
