The poultry industry in India is facing a very difficult time with sky-high feed prices and low egg prices in the peak winter season. Feed prices have jumped almost 40-45% as compared to last year. Maize which was available in Khanna market at Rs.1400 last year is currently trading at Rs.2050 per quintal. Bajra last year was at Rs.1250 per Qtl is now available at Rs.1850 Per Qtl. Mr.Rajeev Kansal, a poultry farmer from Panipat told eggchi.com that the poultry industry is going through a financial crunch due to the feed prices. Eggs that were selling at Rs.470 (per 100 eggs) just 10 days back are now being traded at Rs.405 only. Rising feed prices are contributing to the poultry farmers worries. Further, he told that a layer farmer of 1 lakh birds is now spending Rs.15 lacks per month more in the feed as compared to last year.

Same is the condition of the broiler industry. High feed costs has made the broiler industry in a huge loss. Last year broiler in Delhi market was trading at Rs.80 per kg, is now trading at Rs.65 Per kg. Mr. Gurmeet Singh, MD Simran Feeds Pvt Ltd, told eggchi.com that the production cost of the broiler is Rs.80 per kg and the selling price is on Rs.65 per kg. He urged that Govt should allow the maize import immediately so as to bring down the production cost.
