NECC

The Indian Poultry industry suffered an unusual series of crises in the early 1980s, as the selling price had become lower than the production cost. Many of the poultry farmers shut down their farm operations as a result of heavy losses. A group of farmers motivated by Dr. B. V. Rao Ji, Ch. Jagapati Rao Ji, etc. traveled across the country, organizing over 300 meetings with farmers and traders. Their objective — to unite poultry farmers from all over India with the slogan "My Egg My Price". In May 1982, NECC was formally registered and on May 14, 1982, NECC started declaring egg prices. NECC has played a significant role for the betterment of  the egg industry, through its various programmes like price support operations, egg promotion campaigns, consumer education, market research, rural market development and liaisons with the government on vital issues concerning the industry

EGG RATES

India is the 3^rd largest producer of eggs with daily production of around 22 crore table eggs. China stands 1^st with the daily egg production of 130 crores and the USA stands 2^nd with daily egg production of 28 crores. With the increase in health awareness, Indian layer industry is growing annually at 8-10% per annum. India is having 60 eggs as per capita consumption as compared to 290 and 300 for U.S and China respectively. Human nutritionists recommend 180 eggs per person per year. With only 60 eggs per capita consumption of eggs, India has a very good future in Layer industry. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana are the forerunners in terms of egg  production whereas Uttar Pradesh, Bengal and Bihar are considered as major egg consuming states

BROILER

Chickens that are raised for meat are called “broilers”. 

India Stands 5^th in world boiler production with production of 4.6 million metric tonnes. The USA tops the list with 19 million metric tonnes followed by Brazil (13million metric tonnes), European Union (12 million metric tonnes), and China (11.7 million metric tonnes). The broiler meat industry is growing annually at 8-10%.  Venky ’s, Suguna, Indian Broilers(IB), Srinivasa and Sneha are few of the largest broiler integration companies in India. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra are the leading broiler-producing states. Per capita broiler meat consumption in India is 2.5 Kgs as compared 10 kgs recommended by human nutritionists.  

FEED

Feed is the major and the most important component of a poultry farm. It contributes to 80% of the egg and broiler production cost. Soyameal and Maize are the two most important constituents of the poultry feed. Other than soya and maize, items like Bajra, De-oiled Rice Bran, Groundnut Cakes, Mustard or Rapeseed De-oiled cakes, DDGS are also widely used in Broiler and Layer Feeds. Grains form 60-65%, Protein Items forms 25-30% and Calcium forms 5-15% part of the Poultry Feed. Major maize producing states in India are Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana. Soya is majorly grown in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. Quality of egg and the chicken produced is depends upon the quality of the feed being fed.
